Dog Walking (But Make It Healing)
This isn’t a leash-and-lap job. It’s structured movement, confidence-building, and real connection—for dogs and the humans walking beside them. At DaVinci Unleashed, every walk is intentional. Dogs get mental stimulation, social exposure, and calm leadership. Our team—made up of residents in recovery—brings patience, presence, and consistency. That energy matters. Dogs feel it.
More Than a Walk: It’s Enrichment
Exercise and Socialization: Regular walks are essential for a dog’s physical and mental well-being. It provides them with much-needed exercise, helps maintain a healthy weight, and allows them to explore the outside world, which contributes to their socialization skills.
Benefits for Dogs: Besides physical exercise, dog walking offers mental stimulation through exposure to various sights, sounds, and smells. It can also reduce behavioral issues that may arise from boredom or pent-up energy.
Safety: Professional dog walkers are typically experienced in handling different breeds and temperaments, ensuring the safety of the dog during walks. They also know how to manage multiple dogs if they walk several at once.
Duration and Frequency: The frequency and duration of walks depend on the dog’s age, breed, size, and overall health. Generally, dogs benefit from at least one or two walks per day, ranging from 15 minutes to an hour or more.
Individual vs. Group Walks: Some dog walkers offer individual walks for dogs that prefer one-on-one attention, while others conduct group walks with multiple dogs. Group walks can provide socialization opportunities for dogs, but it’s essential to ensure that all dogs are compatible and well-behaved together.
Leash Etiquette: During walks, dogs are typically kept on leashes to ensure their safety and the safety of others. It’s crucial for dog walkers to follow leash laws and any specific rules set by the dog owner or local authorities.
Hydration and Waste Cleanup: Dog walkers should carry water for the dogs, especially on hot days, to prevent dehydration. They are also responsible for cleaning up after the dogs, disposing of waste properly.
Communication with Owners: Good dog walkers maintain open communication with the dog owners, providing updates on the dog’s behavior, any issues observed during walks, and any other relevant information.
Who’s Holding the Leash Matters
Our handlers are residents of DaVinci Recovery Homes—people rebuilding their lives through responsibility, routine, and service.
This program creates:
- Meaningful work and accountability
- Skill-building and emotional regulation
- Healing through animal connection
Dogs get structure. Humans get purpose. Everybody wins.
If you opt for professional grooming services, do your research and choose a reputable groomer who has experience, positive reviews, and demonstrates a caring approach to pets. Be cautious of extreme temperatures when grooming. Avoid leaving pets in hot areas or exposing them to cold drafts during or after baths. Praise and reward your pet for good behavior during grooming. Positive reinforcement can help make the experience more enjoyable for them. Adjust grooming routines based on the season. For example, in warmer months, consider shorter haircuts to keep pets cool, and in colder months, ensure their coats are well-insulated.
